About Our School

The Rhonda McCulloch Danceology is located at 4814-49 Street, Stettler, Alberta. It is owned and operated by Rhonda Gillrie and opened its doors in 1989 with a total of 20 students. Today dance instruction is given to over 200 students taking over 500 dance spots weekly. Some students travel more than 100km to attend classes at the Rhonda McCulloch Danceology.

The walls of The Rhonda McCulloch Danceology house two dance studio rooms complete with raised wooden floors, custom designed barres, mirrors, one-way viewing windows, and contemporary sound systems. Also located in the studio area is a dancewear shop, a concession, a lobby area, and spacious dressing rooms.

The studio offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and Highland. There are pre-dance classes for children aged 3 and 4 years old. Adult classes for anyone over the age of 18 are also offered as well.

Highland dancers are given classes based on the dances set forth from the Scottish Official Board.  OUr instrutors are fully certified with the SDTA.  Highland dancers are offered an opportunity to compete in Highland dancing competitions throughout Alberta, North America and the World.

Registration is held during the last  week of August. Full season, competitive classes begin the second week of September and run to mid-May when the year-end Recital is held.

The Studio is also pleased to offer 6 Week Sessions for many of their dance diciplines.  In this way the stdents are able to experience a taste of dance without having to comit for the full year.

BALLROOM sessions given in 8 week sessions are also available.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES are just one more way to offer boys and girls the dancing experien, come take a class with one of our super instructors...share your special dancing with us!

Students at the Rhonda McCulloch Danceology are involved in out-of-town dance festivals we as well as the Stettler & District Music Festival. Students also perform for various service groups and in conjunction with other performance groups in and around Stettler including Alberta Prairie Steam Tours.

Instructors at the Rhonda McCulloch School of Dance hold numerous professional teaching certificates.  These designations are obtained by taking qualifying examinations based on technical knowledge and the ability to teach effectively.  Our Instructors regularly attend workshops to stay on top of current dance styles and updates in technical information.

The Rhonda McCulloch School of Dance specializes in personal development of each dancer in the areas of poise, musicality, self-discipline, self-esteem, and teamwork.  We believe that all people have the ability to dance.  The love of dance is best started at a young age but is certainly not reserved for the young alone.

Our Programs
Pre-dance for 3 – 5 year olds

We believe that all children have the innate ability to dance and move creatively with music.  The Pre-dance program recognizes that all children aged 3-5 change greatly in their physical and emotional development from year to year.  Separating the children on the basis of age will enhance their learning experience.
The Pre-dance program for the children aged 3-5 focuses on the skill development in the areas of:

Musicality                                           Gross Motor Skills required for dance
Basic dance Terminology                Correct posture for Dance
Positive self-image                           Development of listening skills
Positive interaction with peers
Learning to trust their own instincts with regards to their ability to dance
Understanding of appropriate behavior required for public performances (self-discipline)

Non-Competitive or Essential

This program is for those students who have completed the Pre-dance program or for new students 6 years and over.  This course of study who wish to take dance purely for the joy and fun of it.  Students will receive the same high quality instruction as all others and may be grouped with competitive students for technique classes.  Students will progress from year to year as their ability to dance becomes more proficient. Because of the limited time spent in the actual dance class, the progress of these students may be more gradual than those students in the competitive program.

These students dance at various community functions, and the Stettler & District Music Festival, and at the Year-End recital.

Students in the Essential program may also wish to participate in one or all of the 6 week at a time programs, a great way to give dance a try without the commitment of performances.

Competitive or Enhanced

This program is designed for those who wish to take a more in-depth look at dance.  Student must be at least 6 years of age and should have completed one year of Pre-dance or Non-competitive study.   Students in the competitive program must take at least one Ballet technique class per week.  Dancers may choose the competitive format in one or more dance styles.  For example, a dancer may wish to choose to be a competitive Jazz dancer and a non-competitive Tap dancer.  Attendance policies and class participation are vital to receiving the full benefits of this program.  Parental commitment is greater for competitive dancers because they must ensure the child is in attendance at out of Town Festivals and Performances. (1-3 each year, depending on the age of the child)

Dancers in the competitive program may participate in Examinations, 2-3 Festivals per year, community performances, as well as in the Year – End Recital.
