Carla VanOers

Miss Carla

I began dancing at the age of three.  My dance training includes tap, Jazz, Lyrical acrobatics and Ballet, although I was most extensively trained in tap and Jazz.  I have completed the AL Gilbert dance syllabus and examinations for both tap and jazz, along with most of the Brian Foley dance syllabus.  I had opportunity to compete for many years at the annual Alberta Dance Festival in Edmonton with various groups, duets, and solos with many awards and winnings.

At the age of fifteen, I began teaching and choreographing dance for younger students at a small studio in Strathmore.  This same year I attended a weeklong dance workshop in Los Angeles.  In High school I joined the Cheer and Stunt team and competed at the National Cheerleading Competition.  During my grade 12 year I auditioned for and was accepted as a dancer for the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.

Miss Carla

From 1988 to 1992, I attended the U of C to complete a degree in Education.  While there, I auditioned for and attended advanced dance classes.  I have been teaching school at the elementary level since then.  During this time I met and married Daram.  We have three beautiful children who also love to dance.

Soon after my oldest daughter began dancing at Danceology, I was given the opportunity to return to dancing myself as a teacher.  Over the past number of years at Danceology, I have gained experience with choreography and have won a number of awards.

Throughout my dancing career I have enjoyed and benefited from a large variety of dance workshops, including an International Dance Teachers’ Convention in Boston in 2007  and Las Vegas in 2011, all which continue to help me grow and learn as a dance teacher.

Liane Courchesne

Miss Liane

Miss. Liane’s passion for dance has been growing since stepping foot in her first dance class at the age of 4. Her formal dance training and performing began in Edmonton, where she studied Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. Her love and passion for dance led her to her first dance teaching position.

Miss. Liane trained for three years under the direction of the highly credited Brian and Faye Foley and is a certified A.D.A.P.T. (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) teacher. She continues to develop professionally through travel and training and continues to attend dance classes and workshops across North America.

Miss. Liane has been teaching dance for over six years and she still values the growth and success of each student. She aspires to instil confidence, positivity and the love of dance with each and every one of her students.

Miss Olivia

Hi, I’m Olivia. I began dancing at the age of three, and never plan to stop! I have been told that I danced before I could walk, and that once I did start to walk, it was on the tips of my toes, as though I were wearing an invisible pair of pointe shoes.

I am in my sixteenth year of ballet, with a background in Ukrainian dance and have taken classes, and am continuing to take classes, at the studio in almost every discipline offered. I have danced in many plays, and choreographed the dances for HATS production of Red Riding Hood, a British Pantomime.

In February 2011, I auditioned for Walt Disney Cruise Lines, and made it to the top 25 out of over 100 people auditioning. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I did not get a job – this time! Due to commitments at school, I was unable to attend other auditions for other companies; however I plan on attending more auditions in the future.

I go to as many dance workshops as I possibly can, having gone to the Dance Teacher Web Conference and Expo in Vegas August 2011 and Dance Teachers Summit in New York City in July 2009, as well as Coastal Dance Rage, Triple Threat, iDance, and Shumka. Going to different venues and experiencing different choreography styles, and ways of teaching allows me to always have fresh ideas, and meet others with the same passion for dance.

I started star teaming when I was thirteen and it is a thrill to be given the opportunity to teach my own classes and share my love of dance for a second season.  Growing up, I always looked up to the “big girls”, wanting to be just like them. Now I hope to be giving younger dancers the same impression as those “big girls” had on me.
